No. 1 Parade 1910 at 6th Whitaker Church of Christ

Parade Scene - Looking north on what is now 6th Street – Oscar Knox home on the corner of 6th and Whitaker Avenue – Church of Christ on the corner of 6th & Gibbs Avenue.

We can imagine the excitement of this parade line up. The horses are ready to pull the beautiful floats down Main Street! The second float from the front is amazing! Do you know what organization “WOW” stands for?

This image of the Cottage Grove Hotel, located on the Northwest corner of what is now 7th and Whiteaker, was taken around 1911. This wintery image shows that the wooden sidewalks were very useful during the wet winter months. It also shows some early technology including telephone lines and a windmill. Does anyone know what the windmill, seen in the background on the upper left of the image, was used for?

Starting January 2021 the Cottage Grove Historical Society will post a postcard from our communities past once a week. We will provide an overview of what the image shows. This will be presented in a blog format so the viewer can add details or points of interest they see in the image. We are combining the idea that a picture is worth a thousand words with the idea that everyone has a story to tell. We hope our audience will enjoy reading additions from others and contribute some of their knowledge to the telling.
